April 13 and April 14, 2007, 8:00pm: The NY Post's Robert George will be performing improv with a talented cast of performers in The Yes Show. If you're a fan of "Who's Line Is It Anyway" -- or would like to figure out what those folks on NBC's "Thank God You're Here" should really be doing -- come to The Yes Show. Location: Stonestreet Sudios, 48 W. 21st Street, Eighth Floor. Cost: $15 gets you great improv AND free beer! What a deal!

April 15, 2007, 8:00pm: Robert George returns to the stand-up stage for another partnership with the good (though deeply misguided) folks from "Laughing Liberally." Last summer's "Laughing With The Enemy" was so much fun (catch the excerpt right here), we decided to do another go-round. Appropriately enough, it's on the traditional Tax Day (don't worry, procrastinators, you can come see the show: Uncle Sam has given East Coast folks two extra days to file -- no joke!). I'll be exploring such diverse topics as the articulateness of Barack Obama and the, ahem, "abortive" presidential campaign of Rudy Giuliani! On the left will be:
Lee Camp, Costaki Economopoulos, Katie Halper. On the right will be: Greg Banks, Robert A. George (Oh, yeah, that's me!), Daniel Nainan. Location: The Tank, 279 Church Street (between Franklin & White) in Tribeca. Cost: $10 (more ruthlessly inexpensive humor -- though I can't promise free beer at this one).

April 17, 2007, 6:30pm – 8:00; Free and open to the public: The Smith Family Foundation presents a debate: Civil Rights & Urban Education: What is necessary to overcome educational Inequality? PARTICIPANTS: HAROLD FORD JR., Former Congressman, Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council, Professor of Public Policy, Vanderbilt University and CLINT BOLICK, President and General Counsel, Alliance for School Choice, Co-Founder, Institute for Justice, Author: Voucher Wars; Moderator PHILIP HAMBURGER, Professor, Columbia Law. TIME ADDRESS/LOCATION: Columbia Law School, Jerome Greene Hall @ 116th and Amsterdam (Enter on 116th, Room 104)Subway: 1/9 train to 116th Street station EVENT DESCRIPTION: Today, more than fifty years since Brown v. Board of Education and twenty years since the landmark report A Nation at Risk, the public education problems they identified still exist. No Child Left Behind nationally along with state-based litigation to increase educational spending are the latest attempts to address these problems. However, improved student outcomes remain illusive. Most acknowledge the biggest problems are in our urban schools. Is there any hope to close the learning gap? Can we expect our existing system to succeed after so many disappointments? Is New York City’s recent experiment with stronger leadership and centralization working? Alternatively, is more decentralization, parental choice and school based competition the answer?

April 19th, 2007, 7:30 - 9:30pm:SUICIDE KILLERS, A documentary by Pierre Rehov. Where: The Millennium Theater, 66th E. 4th St. (between Bowery and Second Ave.). Co-sponsored by: Young Jewish Leadership PAC, New York Young Republican Club (the independent one) FREE to fully-paid YJLPAC members, RSVP to lscheer@yjlpac.org. FREE to NYYRC 2007 members, RSVP to info@nycyr.org. Non-Members: only $5! Come see this amazing documentary film that takes the audience on a disturbing journey deep into a culture that few can comprehend – that of suicide bombers. Filmmaker Pierre Rehov examines the phenomenon of suicide bombers through rare and never-before-seen interviews with actual family members of terrorists, the prisoners whose bombing attempts have been thwarted, and exclusive footage of a terror bomber as he prepares for a mission! This film provides a message of urgency for increasing our understanding of the psychopathological dynamics of these terrorist bombers. You will finally gain insight to how these human bombs “tick”. It was called "A chilling portrait" by the L.A. Times and "A fascinating look into the minds of suicide bombers" by CNN. Better yet, it was produced by one of our very own New York City Jewish Republicans, Lisa Magnas, who will be on hand to answer questions.

April 19, 2007, 7:00pm: New York Young Republican Club (the state-party affiliated one) April Meeting. We will also be holding the election of our Club officers, President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Chairman of the Board of Advisors. Please join us to vote. The meeting begins promptly at 7pm at the Union League Club, 38 East 37th, close to Park Avenue. Business attire required. Please turn off your cell phone and check your coat upon entry.
