April 2, 2008, 8:00pm: Debates at Lolita Bar. NEXT DEBATE: “Does Christian Rock Suck?” — with former rock singer Brian McCarter (yes) vs. Rapture Ready! author Daniel Radosh (no). Michel Evanchik moderates, and Todd Seavey hosts. Free admission, cash bar. The debates, usually pitting two opponents against each other (in a civil and often humorous fashion), take place on the basement level of Lolita Bar at 266 Broome St. at the corner of Allen St. on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, one block south and three west of the Delancey St. F, J, M, Z subway stop.

April 3, 2008, 6:30-9 pm: First Thursday. The Met Club presents First Thursday, our monthly informal social. $10 for members, $15 for nonmembers includes all snacks and refreshments. Metropolitan Republican Club, 122 East 83rd Street, just west of Lexington.

April 10, 2008, 7:30pm: New York Young Republican Club (the independent one) April Speakers Forum. Our Guests: Assemblyman Greg Ball. Assemblyman Greg Ball represents New York's 99th Assembly district which is comprised of the towns Patterson, Mahopac, Carmel, Southeast, Putna Lake and Brewster in Putnam County; Yorktown, Mohegan Lake, Somers, and North Salem in Westchester County; and Pawling in Duchess County. Assemblyman Ball is a business executive, former active duty Air Force officer and has risen to prominence for his stance on illegal immigration, and has been named a Chairman of Lawmakers for Legal Immigration, an immigration reform group. And, Lenore Skenazy. Lenore Skenazy is a columnist and features reporter for "The New York Sun". She previously worked for the "New York Daily News", NPR, and "Mad Magazine". She was featured in the second episode of Bravo's series Tabloid Wars. Lenore Skenazy has recently has received added attention for writting an article in which she admitted allowing her 9-year old commute home all by himself, walking the streets and riding the subway. Ms. Skenazy will discuss parenting and ask whether we as a society have become overly protective and how the dangers today, if any, are real. April 14, 2008,6:00pm: The Manhattan Institute and the Moving Picture Institute are pleased to host the New York premiere of Indoctrinate U. Directed by Evan Coyne Maloney, Indoctrinate U exposes the stunning intolerance, rampant viewpoint discrimination, and broad disrespect for free inquiry on college and university campuses across the nation. The film has received praise as a hard-hitting investigation into the true nature of modern higher education. After the film, MindingTheCampus.com editor John Leo will join David DesRosiers, executive director of the VERITAS Fund for Higher Education Reform, in a discussion of what can be done to address the problems highlighted by Indoctrinate U. Together, they will explore a range of options for restoring genuine intellectual pluralism to our campuses. 6:00 PM: Private reception, 6:30 PM: Screening, 8:00 PM: Forum Discussion followed by refreshments with film director and producers.
