November 2, 2006, 8:00pm, doors open 7:00pm, general discussion from ABOUT 7:30pm: JUNTO presents Robert James Bidinotto. He’ll be speaking about the battles between and among Objectivists and libertarians which are notorious for their ferocity. Most of these, the combatants declare, are over matters of profound philosophical principle. But is it ever proper to collaborate with people who don’t
share your philosophical principles -- especially in organized
intellectual or ideological endeavors? In her seminal essay "The Anatomy of Compromise," Ayn Rand offered three rules about how principles apply to situations of philosophical conflict or collaboration. But she acknowledged that these rules "are by no means exhaustive." Robert James Bidinotto is editor-in-chief of "The New Individualist", the monthly magazine of politics and culture published by The Atlas Society. Visit his anti-environmentalist website: ecoNOT.com
and his blog: http://bidinotto.journalspace.com. General Society Library, 20 West 44th Street, NYC between 5th and 6th Avenues, near the Grand Central Terminal. Admission Free, No reservation necessary. Please note: Junto is not the usual sort of meeting with a long speech followed by Q & A. Junto's invited speakers give a short presentation, and then are challenged to defend their assertions. Discussions are intense, but polite. Participation by attendees is highly encouraged.

November 8, 2006, 8:00pm: Jinx Magazine presents a free-for-all discussion of "What the Election Results Mean" and what happens next, featuring (Rockefeller-Republican

from any faction who'd care to join our audience -- and be heard. (NOTE: We're not gathering the first Wednesday of the month this time but rather the day after the midterm elections.) Lolita Bar, 266 Broome St. at Allen St., Manhattan's Lower
East Side, one block south and three west of the Delancey St. subway
stop (free admission, cash bar). Hosted by Todd Seavey, moderated by Michel Evanchik.
