August 3, 2005, 10:00pm: The legendary 'Wifebeaters' perform at the Bowery Poetry Club, 308 Bowery @ Bleecker, right across from CBGB's. Three of the Wifebeaters are right-leaning bloggers Ivan, Jessica and Yaron. I'm posting this here because I think it's important to support talent that isn't explicitly leftist and the fact that they're at all right-leaning is a bonus. Oh, and they rock. Do try to make it.

August 10, 2005, 7:00PM: The TR/Gramercy Park Republican Group invites you to a fundraiser for the Bill Fling Memorial Internship featuring a presentation on: Jazz & the Cold War at The TR/Gramercy Park Republican Group office, 191 Seventh Avenue #2S (between W. 21st and W. 22nd Streets). Duke Ellington. Lionel Hampton. Willis Conover. They may not be the first names the Cold War brings to mind. Yet they played important roles spreading American jazz, with its message of freedom, behind the Iron Curtain. Join The TR/Gramercy Park Republican Group for a fundraiser for the Bill Fling Memorial Internship fund and enjoy a presentation on Jazz and the Cold War led by TR/Gramercy Park Republican Group Secretary and NYU-SCPS Adjunct Faculty Member Joe Bendel. We will listen to audio selections from many jazz giants directly related to their musical service to America during the struggle with Communism, including several analog gems still not available on CD. Come enjoy the uniquely American music of jazz and help remember Bill Fling, a truly unique American. While jazz survey courses at NYU SCPS usually cost over $300.00, we are only asking for $20.00($10.00 for members of The TR/Gramercy Park Republican Group). Light refreshments and open bar included as well as a chance to win several hardcover books of Republican interest.

We will also be passing out literature related to the Bloomberg for Mayor and Pat Russo for City Council Campaigns. This event has the chance to have a great impact on the Mayor’s race and the local races. Every Republican Registration we get is one more vote for a Republican City government and the success of the past 12 years. Please RSVP to president@nyyrc.com by Friday at 5 pm if you can come.
